Ben Jealous Slated to Speak at Allegany County NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner

Former NAACP President Ben Jealous will give the Keynote address at the Allegany County NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner on Sunday, November 5, 2017. Jealous is an educator, Rhodes Scholar, community organizer and investor in socially aware entrepreneurship. He was also the youngest ever CEO and national president of the NAACP. He is currently seeking the 2018 Democratic nomination for Governor of Maryland.

The theme of the 53rd annual event is “Building Community that Empowers Us.” NAACP President Carmen B. Jackson highlighted the local branch’s focus on building the community from the youth up, “The members of NAACP Branch 7007 are passionate in our efforts to provide learning alternatives for our youth. We attempt to provide times and places to have fun and learn at the same time.”

The NAACP will give posthumous recognition to former Cumberland City Police Officer Charles C. Cofield, II, who passed away in 1997.
